With the energy transition, companies' requirements for monitoring, controlling and analyzing their energy flows are increasing. At the same time, new opportunities are opening up to reduce costs or generate new revenues, for example by reducing load peaks and thus grid charges, or by marketing their own flexibility. Germany's largest proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer has gone into operation at BASF's Ludwigshafen site. The plant, which has a capacity of 54 megawatts, is used for the CO2-free production of hydrogen. It will produce up to one ton of the chemical raw material per hour, which is important for the site. After a construction period of around two years, the electrolyzer was inaugurated in the presence of Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister for Climate Protection, Environment and Mobility, Katrin Eder, and Udo Philipp, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Technology.

The next Hannover Messe will be held from March 31 to April 4, 2025, under the motto "Energizing a sustainable industry". At the upcoming industrial trade fair, international companies from the mechanical engineering, electrical and digital industries as well as the energy sector will present their solutions for resource-efficient, climate-neutral and resilient production. In 2024, more than 130,000 visitors came to the exhibition grounds in Hanover.
